Frequently Asked Questions

What does a copywriter do?

Copywriters engage in the art of writing printed materials consisting of promotional materials intended to persuade readers to act. Copy, which is the product of copywriters’ efforts, can range from direct mail pieces to websites to biographies. If you can imagine it written, I can write it.

How do you begin a project?

After we verbally agree to begin your project, I will send you a written agreement to be reviewed and signed by you. Once you send the agreement back to me, I will begin work on your project. I will be asking you for background information (brochures, websites, emails, etc.) on your project in order for me to best understand the concept about which I will be writing. I will then send you a draft. I offer three revisions included in the originally-quoted fee. Anything beyond three revisions incurs additional fees.

Do you work with deadlines?

I definitely handle deadlines well. Should I accept a project with a tight deadline, I do meet them. Otherwise, I reserve the right to deny projects that suggest I will not be able to meet the deadline. The reason for this is that copy requires time and effort for a quality outcome. I would rather not rush a job if I feel that is what I would be doing. There are cases where I would be able to manage a tight deadline, but such instances are decided at the time of presentation.

What happens if I don’t like the copy?

I do my best to integrate the message as presented to and understood by me. If you are not happy with the copy, I will gladly rework it for up to three revisions at no additional charge. Beyond three revisions, I charge 25% of the original quote per hour. My portfolio gives a good indication of the typical writing style I present in my work.

Why don’t you post your fees?

Fees vary depending on type of service, subject matter and length. A website homepage on the subject of dance would incur a different rate from a website on chemistry. The reasoning behind the varying costs is that the type of projects in which I specialize sometimes require more research while other demand less; therefore, the time and effort I spend upon each project varies. Likewise, a one-paragraph biography incurs a different cost than a one-page biography. In a nutshell, each project varies, thereby affecting the costs.

Do you handle design and production as well?

My copywriting services are limited to written copy. I do have a list of graphic designers/web designers with whom I work in partnership and which are listed on my website under Referrals.

Do you specialize in certain topics?

I judge each project at the time of presentation. Although I pride myself on being able to write copy for creative, nontechnical industries, like the arts, travel, real estates and restaurants, this is definitely not an exhaustive list. I engage in research to write better copy for unfamiliar topics. In fact, I do research for every topic I come across to deliver the most compelling, accurate and informative copy.

How can I see examples of you work?

A portfolio of my work is listed under Portfolio on my website. There I list my best work, from press releases to biographies and web content, that I have completed to date.

Why should I hire you rather than another freelance copywriter?

Professionalism is central to success within any field. I put my clients first. I make efforts to work with my clients to produce the most satisfying copy possible. Also, as a professional copywriter, I have a natural affinity for words. My copy has a refreshing, creative twist that I find is unique in the copywriting world. Additionally, I exude integrity. The winning combination of creativity plus reliability is important for long-lasting achievements and a deciding factor in choosing a copywriter.
